Hosting a donation bin

INDIVIDUAL

Hosting a donation bin is easy and can be done for any length of time, at a personal residence, hosting works best if a commitment of at least 3+ months is made.

• Tassie Mums provides hosts with a well signed 140lt wheelie bin, making it easy to move.

• Once the bin fills hosts are asked to drop off the goods at our HQ .  If a host is having difficulty in arranging dropping off items other volunteers can be called on for assistance.

• Donors are directed to the donation drop off locations via personal Facebook messages or email, ensuring that personal addresses are not publicly posted at anytime. Tassie Mums has found that this one on one communication means donations are of high quality, generally very clean and often pre-sorted and therefore we receive very little items that we cannot rehome and have to pass on to other charities.

• Tassie Mums has a private Facebook group for all of its volunteers, a great place to ask questions, access help sheets and keep up to date.

• If hosts would like to sort/clean/bundle any incoming donations they are more than welcome to, this is not expected just a good rainy day activity especially good for little ones to help ‘sort’ toys, while grownups work on the clothes!

• A volunteer registration form is also provided.

SCHOOL

Hosting a donation bin is easy and can be done for any length of time. For schools we usually recommend hosting a donation bin for at least one school term.

• Tassie Mums provides a well signed 140lt wheelie bin, making it easy to move.

 • Tassie Mums provides schools with a newsletter style notice which is great for placing in school newsletters or on notice boards.

 • Another handy notice we provide is the ‘What can be rehomed’ document, listing all the items we are able to accept as donations. This notice is also clearly placed on the lid of the bin.

• Schools often like to place donation bins in reception areas. Bins are weather proof and if a safe outside spot is available this can work well too.

• If the bin fills during its stay hosts are asked to contact Tassie Mums via phone or email so that we can empty it ensuring that donations are not overflowing and getting in the way.

• Hosting a Tassie Mums donation bin can be a great social service project for students and a wonderful way for schools to help the Tasmanian community.

• Students may like to organise a Tassie Mums excursion as part of their social service studies.

BUSINESS

Hosting a donation bin is easy and can be done for any length of time. At a work place it works best if a commitment of at least 1 month is made.

 • Tassie Mums suggest placing a clean box with our notices on the front in a staff room or reception area.

 • Tassie Mums also provides businesses with newsletter notices which are great for emailing around the office or placing on notice boards.

• Another handy notice we provide is the ‘What can be rehomed’ document, listing all the items we are able to accept as donations.

 • If the bin fills during its stay hosts are asked to contact Tassie Mums via phone or email so that we can empty it ensuring that donations are not overflowing and getting in the way.

 • Hosting a bin is a great way for companies to help the wider Tasmanian community and employees may like to continue helping Tassie Mums by organising a day to volunteer at our HQ.
